The areas of Missouri are just low income. I’m from Kansas and I noticed a couple of our yellow counties are college towns.

My mindset while looking at the graph is ridiculously out of control housing prices, but the inverse would also be true of low incomes as well

Fun bit for the west tip of Maryland, that’s a resort area so lots of people from NOVA, DC, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, etc… have vacation homes there, greatly inflating the median home price.
It’s the same with the red spot in north-western Michigan. A lot of cottages for rich people from the southern cities in michigan.
