Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Server vs miniPC dilemma for homelabEnglish
31·2 days agoYou can buy a rack that’s sound insulated and uses a really large exhaust fan. It’s still going to be loud unless you keep the room cool.
Best bet is to flip it. The components might be ok to reuse, the mainboard probably is not atx.
But you can probably find a compatible mainboard for cheap.
I’ve got a bunch of these living around and in my house. Fun to watch.

1·3 days agoThere’s no reaching these people but they can get booted off their platforms so others don’t get sucked into their nonsense.
Hollywood fashion.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How to rid the Web of trolls, bad actors, misinformation, et cetera?
6·4 days agoI do t agree with “block them”
Actively bully them. Call out misinformation.
On my Nextdoor a guy was constantly posting stuff that was just false. They would occasionally get a response from other neighbors. After the 3rd “I don’t think this is legit info” responses I finally called them out with “stop posting things that are factually incorrect. Take this post down. I’m reporting you.”
Holy shit did the neighbors unload on him. 30 responses later, which is likely the most active post of the month, he took it down and apologized.
People just needed one person to get the ball rolling.
No dude, you just have a good manager that was an engineer at some point and has not allowed empathy to be extracted from their soul yet.

If you have a relay or SEG it’s not to hard. Dealing with spam can be a problem.
Availability can be an issue, and creating an HA email server starts to get pricy.
There’s a reason email administration can be a full time job.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What song are you listening to RIGHT NOW, and would you recommend it?
19·12 days agoThe song of tinnitus. It sounds like the high pitched squeal of a failing power supply.

All along the watchtower covered by Hendrix.
