There are multiple gui front ends, but its still very popular to use it in the terminal. Its a TUI, so it practically works like a GUI.

Depends on your definition of an IDE, but nowadays vim can be extended to have basically any feature you’d like. Especially neovim.

Technology@beehaw.org•I totally forgot how terrible a non-ad-free YouTube experience is
4·3 years agoExactly. With youtube’s shitty tutorial search functions ever since they removed dislikes, i kinda need to see the start of the video to know if its even relevant. But no. Full on 2-3 pre-video ads.
Its a rectangular that is detached from the taskbar. Makes no sense.
A floating window for things that should clearly have a tab-like look, like windows 11’s start menu - why in the world does it float like a window?? Why is it not connected to the taskbar like in every other desktop? Or firefox’s new tabs design.

World News@lemmy.ml•It’s Definitive – The Gulf Stream Is Weakening
25·3 years agoIts just a simple example of cause and effect. I am not denying climate change, i just saw no explanation in the article about which parts of climate change diectly contributed to this, which felt very missing considering its in the abstract. This is all i am saying.
Your explanation is true, but i just wanted the details.

World News@lemmy.ml•It’s Definitive – The Gulf Stream Is Weakening
38·3 years agoProbably does - but it was disappointing the article did not give any expert’s explanation on the matter. Why is it so wrong to state that those details are missing from the article?

World News@lemmy.ml•It’s Definitive – The Gulf Stream Is Weakening
112·3 years agoA phenomenon that causes climate change is not necessarily caused by climate change. If i burn a forest down it would increase climate change, but the cause is me burning down a forest.

World News@lemmy.ml•It’s Definitive – The Gulf Stream Is Weakening
211·3 years agoNo its not. And im not denying climate change or anything.
This is a phenomenon that increases climate change, but i saw nothing in the article suggesting this slowdown of the stream was caused by climate change.
For example, if i start a forest fire and a ton of trees are burned, this will increase climate change, but this theoretical forest fire wouldnt have been caused BY climate change - it would have been caused by me.
The abstract strongly suggests “climate change is likely responsible”, but i saw nothing in the article supporting that. Maybe i just missed it, but i was quite disappointed.

World News@lemmy.ml•It’s Definitive – The Gulf Stream Is Weakening
451·3 years agoSo no real evidence this is
connected tocaused by climate change huh?
At this point its easier to find new movies through pirating platforms. So many different streaming services and they only allow searching through their own platform, and obviously push all their newest and shittiest shows. I just go to a neutral platform that has everything and no agenda and find great movies in a matter of minutes.

What program do you use for filling pdf files in RTL languages? For me no program works properly except adobe pdf.

1·3 years agoWell, for one, there is a difference between using your pc for work or for your hobbies/free time. There are a lot of foss drivers for devices not officially supported on linux. However, since this is your job, you probably have no reason to rely on those when windows just works.
And about the windows-only software, some probably work on linux through wine. However, since this is what they make a living out of, they have no reason to even try that. Windows works for them, why waste time?
On my personal, non-job related pc, i have ran many windows-only apps or windows only peripherals when i made the switch. Overtime i need those less and less (either due to new alternatives or linux support being added).

Firefox@lemmy.ml•Deciding for ourselves: 98% of people want a browser choice screen, Mozilla study finds
5·3 years agoMost people use their computer solely for browsing the web and looking at images/videos, which linux is completely capable of. Next most used thing is office suites and printing - as long as you dont need to use right-to-left languages, the office suites are completely sufficient. Printers are dependent on the manufacturer, but most work, some with even less problems than on windows.
Now when we jump to the more niche areas, it depends on the area and your needs. Programming is obviously flawless on linux. Photoshoping images should be good enough for hobbyists, but not for some proffesionals. Video editing is really good for all levels, except fpr adobe products (davinchi and KDEnlive for example). Gaming works pretty well, and is improving over time. Other niche fields have linux support/alternatives, or their products may work through wine/proton.
At the end of the day, you can do basically anything on linux, not necessarily with the exact same tools as on windows.

In a cli you only type commands and send them with Enter, in a TUI you can click/move around with the arrows just like in a gui.
Edit: dont know about good front ends.
