News@lemmy.world•ICE Opens Immigrant Detention Center in Notorious Louisiana Prison: Critics are questioning the decision to hold immigrants at the maximum-security facility Angola, which has a troubled history.
6·4 months agoClassic NYT move replacing Angola with “notorious Louisiana prison” in the headline. And a “troubled history”?
Oh, so the trouble has ended then? Thanks NYT!
Good.
Homeowners will also pay less in property tax.

News@lemmy.world•US military kills 11 people in strike on alleged drug boat from Venezuela, Trump says
45·4 months agoNo. Typically the vessels are boarded, and occupants are either shot or captured. Then they look for drugs, seize them, and sink the boat.
The actions taken in this case are abnormal, incredibly illegal, and obviously immoral.
The data is very granular, but the time moves too quickly for the animation speed, so the dots never actually settle.
Literally unreadable.
You shouldn’t need an app or have to subscribe to a third party service to know if your water is safe to drink.

fuelingfighting Fraud, Waste, and AbuseTM.Obviously, the only solution is to dissolve the SSA and cancel all benefits before this can be exploited. We should create a new agency called TrumpAIDS to replace it, but reduce staff, funding, and benefits by 90%.
Much efficiency!

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Can't we do anything as google is killing AOSP and custom ROMS
1·4 months agoA single app can have separate interfaces for mobile and desktop. Mobile/Touch interfaces are uncommon right now because linux on mobile isn’t ready, and it is extra work to make a separate GUI.

News@lemmy.world•Train carrying possible hazardous materials derails in Palo Pinto, Texas: Officials
13·4 months agoThe public officials seem to believe there are hazardous materials on those cars, and Union Pacific even sent their own HazMat team to the site. Carriers keep extensive records of what the cargo is, where, and how much. After an incident, not making that information immediately and freely available to the public is unacceptable and irresponsible.
Shame on Union Pacific, these local officials, and the state and fed for not mandating transparency.
You are buying a bicycle online.
Both are the same price, but one is handmade by a skilled professional with decades of experience, the other is made by a sketchy machine that even it’s creators don’t really understand… and sometimes uses square wheels instead of round.
Your choice.
Ok, but VS has been around MUCH longer and has been widely used long before any AI features were added. People who have been using VS for years, aren’t likely to just switch, especially in professional environments where VS has largely dominated.
Cursor OTOH, was specifically made to leverage AI. You don’t just start using Cursor.

8·6 months agoThe vast majority of the immigrants being deported are being forced to leave against their will. Why do you think they should have no say in the matter? Forced deportation is violent and cruel, and results in the separation of families.
If either party actually cared about the people, or budgets, or morality, instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars to remove each person, they would just check them in, have them sign a piece of paper, and grant them legal status.

In fact, it is gangs/militia backed by Israel who are systematically stealing aid. Not to mention the thousands of casualties directly caused by the GHF indiscriminately firing on masses of starving people.
