Programming@programming.dev•Open source is a thankless job and I think we've lost the plot on how we treat maintainers
6·11 days agoAgree we should treat people better but also: for the love of god learn semver. Breaking changes in minor and patches is so sloppy.
But still complainers fault for not pinning, because you cannot trust semver at all. Vicious cycle

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever found yourself in a personal situation that felt like it contradicted your political beliefs?
41·11 days agoThis is called changing your mind with new information.
“Politcal” is just a word people use to belittle or poo poo moral and social beliefs and growing and changing with new information and experiences is natural and better than blindly sticking to some idealism to stick within a perceived party line.

Fediverse@lemmy.ml•The Fediverse's Censorship Problem is Worse Than Reddit's
2·14 days agoBeing banned isnt “censorship”. If people dont want to hear what you are saying, that’s within their rights to block you. These are connected communities and if you arent wanted in one because of what you are posting, its working as intended.
If you are posting AI shit, don’t. No one wants that crap here. Go back to reddit to be a bot.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do the vast majority of people on Lemmy seem to HATE AI?
71·15 days agoIts a massive theft machine destroying the earth in an attempt to eliminate labor value with no benefit to anyone in the long run other than the ultra rich. AI isn’t for you, its for rich people to get richer so they dont have to pay humans to do work.
Fuck AI. LLMs can be interesting but the atmosphere that is “AI” is a net bad on society.
This isnt even mentioning how fucking boring and generic its output is.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•According to Lemmy Users: Blockchain was a grift, AI is a grift, Quantum computing will be a future grift. So according to you what new and emergent technologies are not / will not be a grift?
221·25 days agoCapitalism is what makes them grifts. Llms could be neat. Theft at scale, environmental impact, and using it to kill little kids (anyone but jfc the kids killed wtf) is the problem. Its always the horrid companies and governments who look at any tech like “can i hurt people with this? I totally can…”

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the worst American remake of a foreign movie you've seen after watching the original version?
1·29 days agoSo, both and not Vanilla sky. They used Penelope Cruz in both films, but swapped out the guy in the Spanish version for tom cruise and it’s otherwise the same movie. Tom did a great job but it was uneeded unless you just loathe subtitles (y tho)
The ceos for sure

Opensource@programming.dev•Given the recent uproar about AI usage in rsync a PSA: maintainers owe you nothing
51·1 month agoYou are implying that maintainer is a service job and not them simply putting their work into the world for people to use. With foss if YOU dont like the maintainer YOU fork and continue.
They own nothing to anyone. They didnt have to make their code available and doing so is no contract.
Its not that community isnt important but “require” “owe” and even “should” arent applicable to freely given work like this.

This SCOTUS sucks ass, :sigh:
