AV1 or HEVC (previously) seem to only be uses for high resolution video like 2K.

As there the difference is biggest, and lacking hardware support is fine.

I only use AV1 if possible, recent-ish Intel GPUs and phones support it fine.

Btw, my soon to be EOL Pixel can encode 1080p AV1 at 0,5x speed or so, using svt-av1 (the better, but software, encoder).

Any normal desktop environment should lock, then suspend. KDE does that afaik, never had that issue.

It is surprising how mediocre some filesystem support is. UDF and exFAT (the only universal and windows compatible filesystems with support for big files) both caused files to write but not appear on the disk afterwards. FAT32 doesnt show progress. And more I guess
