This is not really comparable to Streisand effect, because posts like these do not try to hide Omarchy. In fact this post is the opposite. People (posts like these) are concerned and want to discuss. That’s one of the coolest ideas. I wish I could get into No Man’s Sky, but the gameplay loop just wasn’t for me when I tried it in the past.

I don’t think you understood what I said, because no one is talking about killing people. There is no excuse for having public lists of humans to be blocked, because they are a bit weird or are connected to weird people. Just because one person has this opinion. Its extremely dangerous, because most people look at the list (because they don’t know these persons) and believe and follow it.

Wow, I did not expect that verdict (still need to watch the video). I respect Skill Up and think he is well articulating himself and his reasoning are often valid.

I also ignored Ubisoft games. Not all games they publish had all this crap BTW, but you could count the interesting ones on one hand.

I wouldn’t mind additional launchers and accounts, if it was optional without hiding core game elements behind it. A game must launch and the base game be playable on Steam without additional online DRM, software launchers and account requirement. For single player games that are fine to play offline.

I agree with you 100%. I just brought it up, because it proves that there needs to be a solution to the problem and this is an attempt to solve the issue (at least somewhat). I am not an advocate for DMCA system, because it is misused easily.

I also have to trust the community in order to trust the system. But no community can help you, if the maintainers doesn’t do their job well, after you got pawned. There are lot of Open Source projects and operating systems I do not trust.

And yes I also get what you were saying with the media comparison, I did not try to invalidate your personal opinion by claiming the comparison wasn’t valid. I understand you were trying to make a point by that. I just didn’t want to go too far away from the topic, as this happens too often. Being Open Source doesn’t solve the issue here. First, as you say yourself, you even do not trust a project that is Open Source because of Ai slop. And you cannot verify every line of code with every update on every application. Do you understand every security issue by just looking at it? Even if you would, which is impossible, do you build everything from source? No normal people does that (sorry Gentoo users, this sentence was just for you guys :D).

Omarchy is a good example of that we should not trust everything, just because it is Open Source. I personally would have moral problems AND fear of incompetence and intentional malware. The actual software, the operating system itself, would have been very nice if there were not these trust issues.

I would say its not the same as liking pop culture. That comparison doesn’t hold up, because listening to music does not execute stuff on your system, you do not depend on it, and there is no trust issue here involved. As for the moral problem of liking something, where the creator is a bad person, well that is something you can do in art. I personally can differentiate from media consumption and its creator, which is not possible with operating systems and software.

But if we start talking about media or even food, that is all a different thing and would just distract us from our original topic.

Would you trust to install an operating system, that was provided by actual Nazi Germany? Would you install or recommend ANY distribution you don’t trust to someone else?

Barney the distro builder tool sounds interesting. I mean I could just use Archlinux and build my distro this way. Not sure how Barney works, as the repositories need to be supported and then this becomes a distro, not a distro builder tool. I still have to read about this tool to understand. This actually has nothing to do with Omarchy and the popularity of the distro is used to market his own tool in the blog post.

I thought that was exactly how copyright works. It is infeasible to keep track of every infringement, so a policy like that is unenforceable.

That’s why DMCA takedowns exist, even automated after an Ai recognizes a song in example. As this has some bad side effects in an automated process or even persons and companies misusing it either willingly or by not understanding, it will remain a problem. DMCA exists because it is unfeasable to keep track of every infringement, and an instant action is taken just in case it is true.
