My argument is that if they were actually competing that would mess with the performative nature of the storytelling.

Oof, yeah, forgot about that. Yeah, people are people everywhere… I just liked having a more idyllic version of things in my head
When I lived in Germany I found that the people were far more self-policing than Americans. There just seemed to be a general attitude of, “we know we’re not supposed to do that, so we don’t.”
Fully anecdotal, sure, and that was 15 years ago, but nonetheless it’s hard for me to imagine “ze Germans” tampering with odometers to sell cars.
athlete Athletes compete or strive against others to attain a goal, TV wrestlers perform, or enact a feat before an audience.
Our copy of doom had a handwritten label
I don’t think anybody is asking to measure his feet, but these measurement devices are practically everywhere that shoes are sold, so it’s easy to check for yourself.
I wonder if it’s a function of total surface area or if it’s more about the weight pressing on your ankles…
“It’s level 1 autism, what used to be called Asperger’s,” is normally enough for people to understand what I’m talking about. Of course, I’m not saying these things to every person passing by, but when a conversation goes there I try to be educational.
I find that I don’t like full games of chess, but chess.com has these little chess puzzles that highlight the surprising deviousness of the rules that can turn a sure defeat into a swift victory.
They also have an algorithmic engine that will calculate the general effectiveness of each move so you can get instant feedback, which I like.
I guess I need more focus in the things I play, and chess is just too broad as a game.
It’s Did Not Finish in racing
Chess is a logic puzzle that changes as you play it, with the randomness coming from player interaction. If you’re not into solving those kinds of puzzles, you’re probably not going to have fun.
That’s the problem, SCOTUS saw it and specifically reduced it from effectuate down to facilitate.
I used to try to use them 100%, but there are so many situations where it’s completely unwarranted (in my specific driving circumstances). So I guess I default to using my indicators, but I try to use them the right way, i.e. before a lane change rather than after I’ve started to commit.
Also, I used to put on my indicator for a lane change nice and early, but dear god the way these cars warn about your blind spot being occupied, holy shit. Music turns down, loud beeping, it’s madness.
No, but only because I rarely pull out of a driveway or parking spot into any sort of traffic. Parallel parked on a road, though, sure.
Nine bullets that found their mark. In most police shootings it’s only about a quarter of shots that actually hit their intended target. It’s a miracle that nobody else was injured.
Even Scooby-Doo villains admit they would have gotten away with it after weeks of successfully getting away with it.
You’re right, it will require somebody with a lot of conviction to take such a drastic, life-altering action. It’s much easier to say “just do it” than it is to say, “follow me.”
Realistically, what would happen if ICE agents came in the middle of the night and a person were to completely gun them down? I assume it would escalate responses in general, but what happens to that person? Is martyrdom as much as they could hope for?
And just like every retailer, they’ve vertically integrated their supply chain so that they can shove their bullshit brands at you
Bruh, get that airdale propaganda out of here! The Navy doesn’t have classes of ships that only serve to protect carriers, they’re all multirole.
