Fraudulent Scientific Papers Are Rapidly Increasing, Study Finds
Sure it does.
Good thing those publishers who demanded millions of dollars are willing to pay domain experts to peer review those right? /s
Guess peer review is going to require independent verification of results prior to passing.
As long as peer reviewers don’t get anything for failing studies it’s always easier to just let it pass.
Or, in other words: “Peer review in commercial publications is worth shit.”
Consequence of people needing income from research grants without actually having the qualifications to write good research papers.
ding ding, there have been people that are struggling to get hired, so they have write fluff peieces to look good on thier CVs, which is some the complaints are coming from, low quality papers are blurring the good science research. i know at my UNi, some PHD holders coming to the school to have a “talk” says they write DOZENS of papers just to get noticed by an employer and i can only surmise many of them are pretty non-relevant or anything new to add to the field. i can imagine some of them being completely fkaed too.
This probably has something to do with conservatives trying to add bad science data to good science data to confuse everyone and give validity to their shitty points of view. At the very least it will make AI worse
Academic publishing has always been a racket.
Universities need to run their own journals that trade on their reputations.
The whole “publish or perish” culture is the main culprit - researchers in some countries litterally get cash bonuses for each paper, regardless of quality.
the scientist themselves sometimes freely give the articles if asked/emailed, but when they have to publish its paywalled, if your not faculty or student of a university system.
