My current favorite conspiracy theory is that Paramount is doing all this in order to accelerate a contractual split in Warner. Because the sale would mean that CNN gets puts in a different basket company. That’s what David Ellison actually wants to buy, and it is what neither Paramount or Netflix wants to buy. So, in theory, this is all part of Ellison’s trying to get to CNN before the US 2026 electoral cycle.
