I don’t think it makes any sense to keep investing in an old language, while writing code for today.
Which make me ask, will it ever be ported/modernized?

Na, python is a modern language. What makes you think it’s old?
Banking and government systems still run on FORTRAN which is older then most internet users.
FORTRAN and COBOL at that.
Eww. Go is really old too and doesn’t have enough types. Time to rewrite all software in Rust.
