Australia actually has an oversupply of parking, both on streets and in parking lots. Across five of the state capitals, most postcodes have more on-street spaces than there are registered cars.

That’s great for drivers, given most on-street parking outside the inner city is free and has no time limit. Many spaces are used by locals with a driveway or garage who find it more convenient to park on the street.

The problem is, abundant street parking comes at a cost. Streets jammed with parked cars look bad – and remove space for bikes, e-bikes and scooters.

There has also been a trend in suburban areas toward people not using their garages to actually store their cars, and just using the street. I think there should be at least some amount of price imposed on street parking, even if it’s minimal.

I think there just needs to be a sensible time limit. Like, 3 days or something.

There’s cars on my street that are anchored to the road with cobwebs and they actually block the street.

I reported 10 cars and they actioned one of them.

I have literally had better results from throwing rocks at them. 100% removal rate within days.

My local council will come back multiple times and if the car hasnt moved slap an abandoned car sticker on it and then 24 hours later tow it. Though we definitely know each local council has its strengths and cough weaknesses.

Yeah this one’s a problem; turning garages into extra living or storage space and cars being parked on footpaths. The roads around new estates are minimised as much as they can to maximise lot yield so there just isn’t room for huge arse tradie utes everywhere on the footpaths. Doesn’t stop them though. They’ll even leave the driveway clear so kids can play on it and park on the footpath.

It smashes up services and kerb as well. You really don’t want to see what happens when a green boy gets hit by a car.
