This is both fantastic and worrying.

Much needed changes but then landlords could just lie about moving back in, claim false breaches, or make living there such a hassle/so expensive that the tenant moves. Or those that are only in it for the money could take their bat and ball home and leave tenants in the lurch.

I’m really hoping that protections for tenants increase.

Edit: I’m glad that making it easier to have pets as a renter is a consideration too.

The issue of leaving a DV situation with an existing pet is also very valid. There are short term stopgaps but already having a pet shouldn’t be a barrier to finding another stable long term place if you need to move. Especially if your pet had previously been allowed where you were.

Long overdue change. The idea that landlords could just kick people out for any reason is just absurd and cruel.

If rent-increase caps aren’t part of it, it’s all hilariously worthless.

Want your tenant gone, just put the rent up $10,000 a week, then when they can’t pay, you have grounds to evict. Simples.
