Seems outside of what one would expect from a terminal. There’s dedicated app to handle this task.

It appears to have the display functionality of swaybar, the default dock of Sway.

Sorry if I sound dumb, but which kind of program would be the one to display the output of text based interfaces, also called terminal applications, if not a terminal?

Waybar/polybar or one of the scriptable widget systems.

Sorry, no, don’t want that in a terminal.

I like how they show a thin sliver of something that looks like a standard terminal output instead of a screenshot of what this actually looks like on your desktop.

Fuck this project for stealing the name from KiTTy, a PuTTy fork. Years ago it was brought to the devs attention and he doubled down on the name. The way they handled it deserves no respect.

Yeah he really didn’t handle it well

Edit: Here’s a link to the thread.

I want my terminal to just work, so all this kitty stuff is overboard for me, but good for them!

Cool, but now SSH into a remote server and then try to open nano. It doesn’t.

After using it for 3 weeks I concluded that as Kitty breaks the fundamentals all the nice shiny isn’t worth it.

      Just install terminfo.

It is intended behavior, almost every terminal requires terminfo. It is just that terminfo for most popular (or older) ones comes preinstalled.

All new niche terminal suffer from it. Foot has the same problem.

Or override the TERM variable in your ssh config. Setting it to an xterm value has been supported by any niche term I’ve used over the years without sacrificing any of the usual functions.

I especially like the casual swipe at GNOME, they deserve it!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
