“How China’s CRUMBLING chip sector spells the end of China’s economic BOOM!”

I took a tour around the comments (I know I know, youtube comment sections are the one thing worse than reddit) and…there are actually some people who are like “Yeah, that backfired pretty hard”.

The biggest cope I see is “Oh yeah well uh…they can’t do it profitably enough so it isn’t sustainable!”. Like R&D stopped the second they had a working chip and isn’t actively lowering the cost already.

As a point of order, Vox has 11M subscribers, the video has 5M views. Still ridiculous though.

There’s always a bizarrely high viewcount on things like this that make me a bit suspicious as to how legitimate they actually are though.

I don’t want to totally downplay the incredible work the researchers are doing, but it’s a long way off from any kind of actual treatments coming from this.

A lot of research is successful on mice that doesn’t actually end up resulting in human treatments for any number of reasons. Even if it could be leveraged into a treatment for humans, we are looking at years and years of further trials and research. Not even mentioning the immense degree of complexity that scientists would be working with.

Still, the work done by China in all sectors, including biology and genetics, never ceases to impress. Even if an autism cure is not viable, the research could be extremely important for other things.

But how does it fare against balloons?

They had one a year ago, that was probably far more favorable than anything they will see now, until their minders shot it down.

This isn’t even close to being a a legitimate peace proposal, at best it is an attempt to spin a “look, those mean Russians won’t accept peace!” news story. There’s nothing even resembling a concession, it reads more like a demand for unconditional surrender.

There’s obviously a chance for a big break through as the first defences are always the heaviest and it should get easier after that

That’s the opposite of Russia’s defensive doctrine, which would only be exacerbated further by the ability to deploy reserves where necessary. It could be a different story if Ukraine wasn’t having to commit their exploitation forces just to try to reach the first lines of defense; even if they break through tomorrow they won’t really have the manpower to do anything with it.

Nobody actually has any argument against this except ad hominems, which is usually fairly telling.
