Both the Bose and Sony are considered top but Sony is more expensive.I have the Bose and like them but a known defect is the earpad that will break very quickly (buy Chinese replacement for those)

No, they wouldn’t. The law aims at making it compulsory for companies to add that backdoor, private individuals can still run whatever software they want, they can’t stop you from running a not-for-profit app from some independent developer that doesn’t relay on servers.
This could actually be a good thing, it might end up pushing people to serverless and more decentralized FOSS solutions
I mean home manufacturing is cool and all, but in the short term open source hardware has the potential to create a lot more competition in traditional manufacturing. Most big tech rely on IP nowadays, without it there would be more competitors to drive prices down and increase supply. Home manufacturing is more in the far future IMO

for mobile a low effort approach is to simply buy a dumbphone and a faraday bag and you’re good to go.
