Agreed, even worse is algorithms continual boosting of “ragebait” or emotion centred content. Why read/watch an article that will “just” be informative when you can watch something claiming how any step forward means you’ll lose something.
I’m providing some of the reasons I’ve read or heard from the campaign. Not that I support them or their validity. Regardless of whether people “could” have sought it out if labour wanting to put forward these changes the onus is on them address all the “concerns” either directly or by be being more informative in their campaign.
Which is all an aside, my point remains there were other reasons people didn’t vote yes contrary to what the writer of the article asserted.
The reasons I saw from the no campaign were 1. Unclear wording in the constitution 2. Bringing race into the constitution (either for all or none) 3. Lack of explanation as to how the changes, again to our constitution, would tangibly “close the gap”. I largely blame labour for it failing. Plenty of nos could have been yes if the campaign was more clear and informative imo but I don’t doubt racism played its part. Blaming it exclusively on racism and political apathy is disingenuous and certainly won’t inform people nor change their minds.
Last year, Australia showed how unengaged and racist this country remains by refusing to insert an Indigenous advisory voice
Right, those are the options. Either you voted yes or you’re unengaged and racist.
If I were, like so many others, to believe what it is I have heard and seen since Thorpe took to the floor, I would be convinced she had broken through the barricades, thrown open the doors, stormed to the front and then proceeding to call his majesty everything under the sun. I certainly wouldn’t get the impression that she, as an Australian senator, attended an event she had been duly invited to, engaged in an act of peaceful resistance by turning her back as God Save the King played and then proceeded to yell a few hard truths about the Crown and the history of this country
This writing is just floundering and bordering on dishonest. While I agree too many people are clutching pearls about it, yelling at the King is what it is. Other First Nations members and elders have stated their disapproval for obvious reasons. While the reactionary “shock” about it is tiring; this side of it is as well. As pointed out it wouldn’t be with the crown these things would negotiated anyway. It would be with the commonwealth/parliament. So yelling at the king during this sort of ceremony about it is not only inappropriate due the event but also due to it being the wrong person to bring this to.
Worth pointing out our feds recently dismantled a criminal syndicate centred around an encrypted comms app. Stuff like that is on their radar and has been for a minute for imo, pretty obvious reasons.
Fuck Australia because we control destructive pests? Righto, guess we should let them destroy the native wild life to this country. We do the same with kangaroo, fox and wild pig populations. Should we also just let them destroy crops and farmland?
Nah but fuck an entire country for doing something that likely happens in your own country. Super reasonable and mature take.
Good tips, thanks!! I’ll definitely check it out.
Oh fuck buying Nvidia new, I was going to see if it depressed 40xx prices or even further for 3090 but I’m not sure it would.
Neat didn’t know that about rope, as you can guess largely due to having fuck all memory to work with. Is AMD viable with LLMs now? Honestly if I can make it work with an AMD GPU I just may because I agree screw Nvidia.
Last I tried was a fimbul merge for 10.4b with rope for creative writing which was great but yeah 3.1 is where I’ve landed lately. I’ll have to check out nemo! Like you mentioned I was sitting on money to grab a 3090 but I think I’ll wait for rtx50xx to drive down prices or just for dedicated hardware. I’ll be sure to keep an eye the AI subs though, clearly there’s a community for it here that’s interested in discussion.
Really into local hosting and open LLM’s I’ve largely stepped back due to ‘fatigue’. I’ve downloaded tweaked and reshuffle models and programs then a couple months will pass and it’s lept forward again. Which is good but I figured I’d wait until it slowed a bit.
I will say the fact I can run a decent 7b and even 10b models and get decent responses and times with a 3070 is impressive. AnythingLLM has been a really handy program for me. Still in development but it’s been neat working with RAG. I also moved from textgen to LMStudio and am really liking it. I like textgen but I felt it got a bit side tracked. A lot of good suggestions in here so cheers OP.
I kinda appreciate ASIOs current stance of talking more to the public where they can. I can’t be the only one that said “fucking finally” when they called for people to tone down the internet discourse. Even if it is a decade or so overdue.
Neither but here while there isn’t a ‘limit’ the flights only stock a set amount and flight crew can cut you off when they think you’ve had enough. I don’t think they give a shit if people manage to get drunk. I think largely the point is not having visibly drunk/disruptive people on planes or in airports. Which I kinda can understand.
I’d honestly sort of be surprised if labour holds onto it. I can’t be the only one who’s been pretty dissatisfied with the minutiae of them running stuff. That better not mean a stint with Dutton though.
Why not back up your win 7 installation and try a different Linux variant? Or even just fuck around with Linux in dual boot/vm before transitioning? I’d have to imagine that’d be preferable to either not using the internet or risking every device on the same network it’s connected to. I swear I read an article where fresh win10 installs were getting infected within minutes of connecting to the net. Let alone 7.
Yeah no. If that was all you managed to get from my reply then it isn’t worth continuing this discussion.
Lemmy just allows random bot that are 7 days old to start auto posting on political post as a self declared fact checker?? I’m probably missing a community announcement but what’s to stop me writing a “fact checker” and loading it up with my biases on particular outlets.
Got it the mod rammed it through despite the announcement thread being full of pushback about MBFC. Good stuff.
Bonus galaxy brained mod reply to pushback:
Overwhelmingly negative? Those are the 24/7 negative users. We do anything: Those guys: THIS IS IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY So you stand alone in that statement. See the post vote score.
You lot
Very interested in who “you lot” refers to when you’ve had a different commenter every reply in this thread.
Do these people who got laid off make the company money or not?
What’s your position here? That labour isn’t exploited and undervalued by the people who profit off it? That if it was, no one ever would be sacked? These companies usually go through phases of hiring talent when they predict they need more labour done (ie when they want to increase profit).
Seems like Bungie haphazardly acquired more talent than it needed, presumably under the assumption that the company would grow indefinitely. It didn’t. So what’s the easiest and shittiest way to bring the company ledger out of the red?? You guessed it, sack them. There’s also a bit of an upset at the idea of paying executives million dollar salaries, then sacking hundreds of actually productive employees.
zero context and dubious evidence.
That’s largely my problem with it too. Reads more like tabloid shit, I can’t get over citing politicians namelessly without invoking the word anonymous anywhere. How it isn’t required for them mention that the opinion was given under condition of anonymity is rubbish.
so my opinion is questionably neutral.
Yeah that’s why my opinion hasn’t ever been much braver than “it never should have gotten to this point” on the matter either. I don’t live there, haven’t been in the Palestinian or Israeli shoes and certainly am not informed enough on the matter. Definitely not enough to comfortably give it on record, in public and potentially off the cuff like that.
Damn. Sucks to suck so hard that it cost you a couple hundred grand.
