  • I think the larger issue is that the blood supply is for profit in the US. Everyone is getting exploited, including the people that require the transfusion.

I donate regularly in Canada and give it away for free as does everyone else. I don’t donate plasma because it’s not especially useful with my blood type (AB+ is universal for plasma, O- for other products).

  • U2 at Massey Hall in 1983. It was the “War” tour. They weren’t well known at that point - we bought tickets the day of the show. They were also still professing Christianity and there was a big “John 3:16” banner across the balconies. But Holy shit the energy!

They began to blow up on “The Unforgettable Fire” tour the next year. They played Massey again at the beginning but by the end they were playing much larger venues.

  • Get bent. Impacted is absolutely acceptable usage to describe a direct or follow on affect from an action or initiative. It’s useful precisely because it’s an intensifier that conveys not just that there is a detectable change in an indicator, but there is a major change that directly attributable to the manipulated variable.

ETA: I think I have this figured out. That 70s Show use the phrase “get bent” as a synonym for “fuck off”. That’s not how I learned the meaning in the actual 70s. It was closer in meaning to “get real” and in line with the reported etymology of “go have a drink”.
