The problem is if you pay for it you still end up without privacy.

I didn’t mean stop living with parents I meant stop failing.
Shit, I failed for most of my 20s and then it got worse. Waaaaay fucking worse, like, I Mean it when I say worst than for most people. I don’t really want to get into it here, but bad.
And then I learned some lessons and worked my ass off and here we are.
So! Stop? You’re 30, not 70
Literally everyone I know does, though. It’s your calendar, your email, your communication. The only jobs I can imagine that you don’t need to have a mobile device are when you are a drone who has to sit where the boss tells you all day long. Even then, your work likely communicates with staff via text or an app.
Has it been awhile since you worked somewhere?
Lol I don’t know. I guess if you work at Amazon or something having one could be considered optional. My job is literally dependant on my cell phone, and my ability to handle emails calls and texts while away from the office is a core of my ability to earn enough money to pay my bills.
If I didn’t have a cell phone for even 1 day, I would make $0 that day at my job.
Agreed and that’d be great. But also, no that doesn’t help this individual right now at all.
Of course a better paying job will help. If your job paid more and you spend the same, suddenly and by definition, the person would not be as broke.
Why even mention no cell phones?
In the 1700s they budgeted by not paying all electric bill! So frugal. 🤣
No one in western society can function or even have a job probably, without a cell phone in 2023
When I had a job that didn’t pay enough, I did side work. For me, for a long time, that was reffing mens hockey.
Another time I was struggling I approached my boss and said I know I’m not your best employee right now, but I want to turn it around and get into a higher paying position. What do you need me to do? Then I did it, and moved up.
5 yrs ago we moved to anew city and I started over in a new thing. I took a job that didn’t really cover our bills, and my wife and I had to make some cuts.
But I wanted certain freedoms like the freedom to do my hobbies or take a vacation, so identified ways to earn additional income through the job I had (in my case it was handling little repairs like replacing smoke detector batteries and light bulbs, installing missing door stops and changing deadbolts). I’ve kept grinding until I took over for my boss, and I continue to handle repairs also. Effectively I work a job and side job at the same time 6 days a week. I work fucking hard, but I had nice vacations with my fam this summer, live in a good house and drive a good vehicle.
So honestly - and while I don’t think this is how it should be - in the system we have, I just grind harder. I am amazed at my ability to do this now in my 30s and now 40s compared to how lazy (in hindsight) I was in my 20s.
By the way! I’m also pretty happy now because my job is (mostly) ok, I don’t dread Mondays or anything most weeks.
Civilization 1.
Government spend much money. Much money come from tax and borrowing. Let’s pretend there’s $100 in the economy. Gov’t takes 10% in tax. They spend $10, and the rest of the people share $90.
When next year comes, the economy grew to $110 and the government Collect $11 in tax, but actually decide to spend $20. Meaning they borrowed $9.
Year 3, economy grows to $150. Government gets $15 in tax, everyone feels “richer”, but government has to borrow to pay the $9 on last year, plus whatever new spending this year. Let’s say gov’t now owes $50.
So the next year! They create inflation and everyone has lots of money but can’t afford shit. Maybe economy balloons to stupidity like $500. Government takes $50, and pays off their debt. Or could.
In in this way, over time, inflation helps reduce the massive debt load incurred by governments because $1 is a lot easier to get in 2023 than it was in 2019.
I book service calls (repairs). Between calls and especially using my hands free while driving between service calls, I return phone calls and texts. When I get where I’m going, if I’m ever early, I respond to emails or place calls. If I finish a thing early or ever have to wait for people, I return texts calls and emails while waiting.
Ive also aced driving distance between places in the city where I work so I’m able to build a solid schedule without running behind.
At night, to clear my head, I schedule a bunch of texts and emails to send off first thing in the morning. Gives the impression I’m working even though I’m probably still asleep.
Time management.
Ive become a fucking pro at squeezing as many tasks into a day as I possibly can. I frequently get told they have no idea how I keep on top of things. I basically work 2 and a half full time jobs for people at the same company, and I accomplish it by overlapping my time and billing per item not per hour
I make this copycat ravioli from a restaurant I love.
Find some butternut squash or pumpkin stuffed ravioli. Fresh sage. Aleppo chili spice, some jumbo shrimp, and garlic mince or chopped fresh (like 3-4 bulbs).
Melt butter in your pan, fry up the sage. Set aside.
Boil your water for pasta. More butter to pan, cook the shrimp. When both sides are pink it’s done, don’t turn them to rubber by over cooking. Set aside and rinse out your pan.
Boil the pasta and when it’s half done, more butter in the pan. Medium to high heat, it’s called brown butter sauce. You stir and let the butter fry until frothy. Add garlic and Aleppo at the end. I sometimes add a dab of truffle oil at the end too, depending on taste and if I have it.
Drain pasta and stir in sauce. Plate, and top with shrimp and sage. Tiny pinch of truffle salt on top if you’ve got it, or pink salt if not.
It’s fucking delicious.
Gotta contribute something, somewhere. But there should be no full time job that doesn’t pay someone enough to pay rent and eat and have a little pocket money.
Can’t free load, but can’t need 2 jobs just to buy groceries either.
It’s time to end compounding profits
Why do you have to steal a credit card to do this?
You won’t fly your family in on your private jet?
I set up both, and kbin was up while I couldn’t get on world for 36 hours. Granted it turns out I had to just quit the app to get it loading but I didn’t know that for a couple days and kbin worked fine

If lemmy stays small, very. On reddit, I liked being able to discuss it inside the boundaries of one community or the other. But reddit was so huge, splitting things up was good. Here, it’s bad. So yes it’s a nice idea.
Indeed.
Weird like, I’d rather seventy three companies and all world governments not know what I’m literally talking about in my bedroom with my wife, so I’m weird?
Yikes.
