Last place I worked we were promised a sprint where all we would do is tech debt fixes. Guess what never happened since the top brass kept pushing new feature requests on us. Features kept taking longer and longer to implement and every release we had more and more bugs make it into production.

I would argue not to hide finances like that, especially if it is a joint account or somebody else’s money. Be transparent with them - “I am withdrawing X amount for a present for you. I hope you look forward to it.” Presents are not about the surprise but receiving something that somebody you really care about put a lot of thought into.

The main branch should always contain working code. You should assume you can deploy it to production and it will work. Not having anybody review your code is lunacy, and ignoring critical feedback is even more insane. You can ignore linting complaints assuming you don’t have a linter that fails the build, but you should not consider faulty business logic as an optional fix.

Not to undermine your point either, but there are autistic people who don’t want or can’t have neighbors. There are very real and valid reasons for single family homes to exist. They don’t even need yards - just have a foot or two buffer between walls, as long as they arent touching.

To them your child is not a life. To fight with these cretins you need to make sure you are fighting the same fight.

I think your use of the term “irrational” there says something potentially undesirable about you. People hate her for a very good reason, regardless of the contents of her books.

People are assholes, and once the lid pops it is difficult to put it back on. What you did could have been the metaphorical straw that broke the camel’s back.

Don’t take these people seriously unless you feel that you have wronged them. They are dealing with their own shit, and you shouldn’t let them drag you into it. Apologize and move on. Anything they say after that is their poor attempt to cope with the situation.
