Isn’t the obvious problem whatever your arm lifts, the rest of your body has to support? an “arm” alone attached to a frail human body would pretty quickly hit its limits, and lifting 1000 lbs is basically giant exo skelleton level.

logically I would think this, but then at the same time I think… say people crazy enough to want to assassinate major political figures and celebrities seem unconsionably rare. There’s dozens of random killings and shootings every day. Why aren’t the daily slough of school shooters going after high schools, instead of setting their sights higher on going for senators or activists they disagree with, or CEOs.

I think that’s kind of the greatest trick when it comes to conspiracies, I feel like 80% of the time the “government did this”, it’s more like the government is probably better at finding out details, and… not acting. IE every pubic figure known to man, probably has 20 credible assasination plots going against them at almost all times. You don’t have to twirl your moustache and hire an assasain, you just underfund the prevention group.

What if instead of pushing to remove them, we push to make them open access to all, IE we push to allow anyone to do lookups for a small cost (because that’s the way to get flock to walk into the trap). Hail it as a tool for police accountability, and let the police unions shut it down for us.

IE If I remember right, as a lurker you get no votes. You basically have to participate, and if you get votes on a post, you then get a handful of votes you can use on others. I do wonder how a system like that would work on other sites. If a modernized form of it could work on a reddit like site etc… Would on the surface appear to be a way to counteract bots, but also run the risk of say one bot getting votes and automating a circle jerk with it’s clones.

from what I’ve seen yes, at least in spectrum’s case they basically give you ad subsudised for free, and for something like 8.99 you can upgrade that to ad free. I think most give that option.

I mean both in reddit and lemmy the concept of downvotes was never meant to be a “agree” or “disagree”, even “like or dislike”. It’s meant to be a “good for discussion” vs “hinderance of discussion”. AKA lets say we’re discussing linux distributions, I come across this.

Person A: I like linux mint, it’s much easier to install, I like the defaults and my printer just works with no setup.

Person B: “Linux mint is for noobs, arch ftw”

Within that, as I am personally a die hard fan of archlinux, so in the agree vs disagree system, I should downvote A and upvote B.

But in a discussion based voting, I’d perhaps respond to A with my pro’s or cons of arch (though in this situation probably agree if the user in question sounds to be a newer user, though I may still make a case for possibly the pro’s of using arch even as a starting distro.

Meanwhile person B, is hostile, gives zero details for WHY anyone should use arch, does absolutely nothing to open discussion or actually help anyone make an informed decision.

They absolutely do suck, but I can see some practical uses for them. IE I can see LLM’s as useful in localized specialized uses. for me I’d really like basically LLM as a like calendar, scheduling kind of thing, also say translating home assistant commands through a voice assistant to make it figure out actual intent etc…, nothing super mission critical, but also mostly things I wouldn’t want any 3rd party service that could change the rules for me, share them to others etc…

I mean I think they figure those things out off sight and initial body language etc… generally they do the sniffing asses after they’re already pretty confident it’s a dog. I think more of “how’s your mood right now, are you healthy, what are you up to”. I don’t now fully what information they get, but it’s stuff we don’t really think about.

I find this unlikely… IMO I think they are hedging in both directions.

Personally I like the idea of local AI. open source models that you an control, decide, and use smartly, sort your things etc… and not pay an absurd cost or link up.

Personally I think MS is actually betting on the opposite. IE they had a prototype windows that was basically just an AI prompt, no start menu etc… and applications just “streamed”.

IMO I think that’s more of the goal, use the data center buildout to drive up hardware prices, until people cannot afford a basic PC. Sell thin clients… then sell us “access” to compute in a form where we own nothing, but pay by the processes used etc…

I think bo burnum’s “pandering” song is dead on the money. In short I think that’s really it, Country music has a strong tie to a very uneducated population. As a result a very rich corporate machine realized they can mass produce it using the right key words to basically sell low effort music. The tiny handful that actually make it into the top by actually being talented and writing because of passion. Will inevitably trigger controversy by seeing humans as humans. Same thing happened with the Dixie Chicks a few years ago.

There’s lots, but just like everything, very few people actually can stick with and use them. Probably the thing that I think would be a logical feature in most chat programs, would be if say you put in your timezone into the client somewhere, then when you type a time you put some character before it like *3:30pm - the chat client could determine your timezone, put it in chat as UTC, and each recieving client could automatically convert it to their users timezone (and I suppose some kind of tag to make it so people know it is already translated to their timezone).

Agreed that’s trying to preserve the workaround, without fixing the problem.

Problem is it doesn’t matter, the reality is, demand for jobs, and people who need to survive… isn’t a number guaranteed to match, and between automation, and wages falling so far behind inflation that many households need 2+ incomes just to keep the lights on, an unemployment problem is inevitable.

If AI actually can cut enough jobs, that the number of jobs available, is less than the number of people who WANT to work, then all we need to do is make it so people don’t HAVE to work.
