I met a guy named Sam Pate. He was a radio guy in Dallas in the 60s and was live on the air when it happened. He told me that the shooter escaped down the storm drain (they were much bigger then before the street was resurfaced), went through the tunnels under the city, and was on a plane to Chicago by the time Kennedy was pronounced dead. https://www.jfk.org/collections-archive/sam-pate-oral-history/

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those of you with bathrooms attached to your bedroom, do you normally keep the door open or closed while you sleep and what's your reasoning?
2·12 days agoAt this house we keep it open- it has a nice window that i like and there’s a dog gate in the doorway. In the last house we kept it closed to keep the cats from peeing on the rug.

News@lemmy.world•Persian Americans in Los Angeles celebrate regime change in Iran
3·15 days agoHe says he has the support of the people. He also says he’s been talking to the white House so there’s that.
The two iranians I’ve spoken with are hopeful. One woman told me that she begged her brother in tehran not to join the protests - he said he couldn’t stay inside when he heard the boots of his people in the street. When the shooting began, people opened their gates and garages to give them a place to hide.
It’s really heartbreaking how many they’ve lost.
Hopeful for them but not optimistic given the US’s history of ‘assisting’ with regime change.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Realistcly how much can be cleaned out of a house, as a child of a hourder?
16·22 days agoInherited a 3 bedroom house from my mom and it was full (overfull) of her stuff. My house had 4 full bedrooms. Both had full garages. Like you, it’s just stuff- not trash , though some was old mail and magazines.
I have big trash pickup every Wednesday. I usually put things on the curb on Saturday and Sunday and much of it is gone before the trash people come. I like knowing that it’s going to someone instead of a landfill.
Other items were donated to a local organization that runs a thrift store.
About 40 bags of clothing and bedding went to my cleaning lady. She keeps what she can use and the rest goes to her church. They offer it to people here and the rest goes to the border. We tease that in a few months we will turn on the news to see everyone at the border dressed like my mom. ❤️
The ‘mementos’ or items that i feel nostalgic or sentimental about - I’ve learned that it takes me 3 times of interacting with items to decide what i definitely want to keep and what can go. I’ve also learned to be ok with that. I can narrow from 10 boxes to 7, then to 5, and if those sit in a closet for s year before i do more, so be it.

Barry Manilow- Looks like we made it.
I suggested that we should have cheers day instead. Activity Pub.
🍻 Cheers!
You could get an extra shower curtain and hang it at the ceiling to help keep the steam inside the shower. Maybe stick a space heater in your bathroom if you want it warmer. I’d turn on the vent fan afterwards to help get the moisture out to decrease risk of mold.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump's isolation of Cuba dries up nation's jet fuel supplies, forcing airlines to adjustEnglish
2·1 month agoI went to Cuba. We got donations of helmets, cleats, bats, etc. from a baseball academy here to give to a school. A couple of vets donated food and meds that we took to an animal shelter. We talked to a lot of interesting people and it was a really fun trip!

There is no backlash and there will be no backlash. A few people, maybe even a few Republicans, will question it to the press, but certainly will not directly question their orange Jesus.
