I previously had the Roborock S4, and upgraded to a Roborock S8 with the auto-emptying dock last year. I have a husky mix, and so my home gets quite hairy. Having a robot vacuum that can empty itself without me having to really do much is a lifesaver. Roborock also offers spare parts, and you can take these machines apart to fix them, if the need arises; none of my machines have ever broken down though.

You don’t need to connect the robot to the app, but I don’t think you get the scheduling functionality without it. You can of course always just press the button to start it manually, and that’s what I’ve been doing most of the time since I want it running when I’m out and that time window tends to shift a bit.

Yesterday I also learned that there’s OSS you can flash onto the machine to decouple it from Xiaomi’s stuff, which I think is great.

Yeah I can see that. My work computer is a laptop, with an ultra wide external monitor. I never use the browser on the laptop screen because with vertical tabs it just takes up too much space. Otherwise vertical tabs give you an easy overview of what you have open if you like me tend to leave a tonne of tabs up.

I have an ultrawide. Vertical works a lot better on ultrawide than on more narrow screen ratios. Though ultimately it’s just a matter of preference. I personally dislike dark mode.

Well yeah, they superceded it in 2015 and eradicated it in 2018. They were doing evil before then too, of course, but I guess at that point they felt like they could just drop the mask.

They own and control one of the biggest operating systems on the market, giving them control over peoples devices. They own and control the biggest browser engine on the market, giving them control over the internet standards; they can implement whatever the heck they want and essentially force it as a web standard. They own and control the biggest search engine on the market, giving them control over what information people can see and access.

For a lot of people, Google controls practically the entire internet access chain, and that should terrify anyone who cares about a free and open internet.

I regret clicking this thread. So I’ll add to it.

Years ago the apartment complex I was living in was getting renovated. We got these little caravans put up out in the back which we could use as kitchens and bathrooms as ours were getting renovated. The bathroom ones had pump issues, and one day, as I was preparing to get into the shower in this freezing cold caravan (because what better time to do this than in the middle of the winter?), the pump crapped out and the sewage ended up backflowing, regurgitated out of the shower drain.

I disagree. The forum is hosted by Mozilla, they have a duty to ensure it’s handled properly. If they wish to no longer maintain it, fix outstanding privacy issues and archive it.

I guess that tracks. Mozilla doesn’t care about people’s privacy after all.
