Technology@lemmy.world•China Crosses Energy Milestone as Coal Falls Below 50% of PowerEnglish
9·24 days agohopefully China will reach soon enough the tipping point where the increase of energy demand will be covered from new renewables, nuclear and storage. From that point on there will be no need for any new hydrocarbon burning energy producers. The next step will start when the price of coa, oill and gas production will be very expensive for the system, so the existing ones will gradually be phased out.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Public Transport - Don't Make Me Think!English
14·1 month agocitizens should have right to use free public transport. Tourists and visitors should pay in order to keep transportation free for the citizens. There is a debate in Europe (where I live) about the pressure of tourism and the additional cost that tourism creates especially in housing and the cost of living. So this is one way to migirate the problem of cost of living.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Public Transport - Don't Make Me Think!English
43·1 month ago- Public transport should be free for all the citizens and paid for tourists visitors.
- Citizens should get a free pass card and tourist a top up card.
- An open source web app should be available with lines and timetables, and everything should be anonymized.
- Public transport should be funded from fuel taxes, car registration taxes and rich people

17·2 months agoGood. now GTFO from Ukraine!
Even with the high prices you can still build a decent AM4 based PC and play titles bought on GOG which is DRM free. If you install Linux you all get one of the best is for free. If you want to go further you can emulate the heck of old consoles and old PC games and have tons of fun. You could also sail the high seas for content that has DRM and/or is very expensive. Don’t forget. If you don’t own what you buy the piracy is ethical and justified. After akk, piracy is mostly a service problem and when you enshitify a service you end up FAFO.

News@lemmy.world•The Hidden Cost of the U.S. Military: The Real Budget is Far Larger Than ReportedEnglish
8·2 months ago“A major significant issue is debt financing. Since the wars launched after 11 September 2001, the United States has relied heavily on borrowing rather than taxation to finance military operations. For this reason, some refer to the post-2001 wars as ‘credit card wars’”.
Imagine conducting wars against other countries by borrowing money from other countries to conduct them. Its gonna be fun when the debt comes due…

Technology@lemmy.world•How AI broke the smart home in 2025English
57·8 months agoIf anyone wants privacy while maintaing a smart home, then Home Assistant is the solution. Its not adopted widely because it has a learning curve and it needs a bit (or a lot) poking around to make it work. It also has a voice assistant that is not AI powered ( but it could be supplemented by a local LLM if you really want to). A big rabit hole if anyone is interested to go to.
