Netbird, it doesn’t use much for data for me, just disable expiry and it’ll stay connected. I would guess the third party app is part of the problem.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ubuntu's "AI Kill Switch" Is Achieved By Removing Snaps, Initially Opt-InEnglish
45·15 days agoWhat a coincidence. Snaps being garbage is the reason I quit using Ubuntu.
If I remove a snap and install a deb package, I should not have to do multiple workarounds to stop it from being replaced with the snap package automatically. The firefox snap doesn’t work with a bunch of shit at all.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Auto start programs being added to OS'es was probably the first indication our attention span wasn't going to survive computers and the internet
2·20 days agoAll of that should be blockable. They will never do it but it’s fucking dumb any of that shit was ever acceptable.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Auto start programs being added to OS'es was probably the first indication our attention span wasn't going to survive computers and the internet
12·22 days agoAutostart as an option is good.
Not being able to block apps from autostarting is unacceptable.
Looking at you android, fuck right off with that shit.

Android@lemmy.world•So, Google can just randomly uninstall apps from my device? What will happen after developer verification comes into effect?English
872·29 days agoPlay protect will remove things that google doesn’t like, not malware.
Working at a phone retail place, I have never seen malware not from the Play store. There is fuckloads of malware on the Play store. Most of it faking Google’s own apps which you’d think they would care about, but they don’t. All of that walks straight through play protect and in some cases on Samsung phones will abuse their security features to not let you remove it easily.
Fake apps that replace your home screen, display ads every 5 seconds, and close any app that you’re in are rampant on the Play store and play protect will do nothing about it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you keep seeing a doctor that required to you agree to the use of AI in your treatment to continue being a patient?
13·1 month agoFuck no. I wouldn’t even install the app. That’s already completely unnecessary.
Bookstack in a docker container. You can export pages with revision numbers and dates. I print out the emergency stuff and keep it in a binder. https://www.bookstackapp.com/ I’ve been using it at work for like a decade now. No apps or anything though, just a decent web interface.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's going on with the lemmy world and ML infighting
192·3 months agoI signed up for the developer’s instance because fuck reddit, and I do dev work.
Server choice had nothing to do with any political shit. I barely knew what federation was at the time. Lemmy immediately proved there are as many bandwagoning idiots as reddit here.
I have nothing to say about world though, I don’t use the platform that much.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is anyone planning on forking Plasma to restore X11 support when it is dropped?
101·4 months agoRemote access is the one pain point. There is very little for RMM or remote software that works on wayland. KDE has that in the works already.
Everybody says Rustdesk but it is a bad joke regardless of wayland.
Personally I host a simplehelp server(paid) and it’s really good but wayland support is a no go so far.
Everything else has been categorically better and fixed a lot of issues for me that I used to have on X11 which I’ve used for like 15 years.
X11+Gnome until gnome 3 then KDE for me because I’m not using a damn tablet (or workspaces).

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you could erase the existence of 3 people, who would they be?
19·4 months agoThe fathers of Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos.
Erasing the existence of anyone would have to be done in the past so that shouldnt be an issue.
Is that improvement past the 1.0 release? That update was great but it still needs some work and unfortunately I’m not the right kind of programmer to help either.
Orcaslicer hands down.
For 3d modelling software, they all suck or have an unreasonable cost for what they offer. Openscad is something at least.

NP, you have to do it on the web interface, not in the app. You can also decrease the frequency if you don’t want it to last forever.
