Programming@programming.dev•Looking for good software architecture resources!English
13·6 days agoThere are a whole bunch of architecture books published by Oreilly that I have bought and plan to read. They were available for a few bucks in a previous Humble Bundle, and cover the topics:
- Head First Software Architecture
- Fundamentals of Software Architecture
- Flow architectures
- Domain-driven Design
- Micro-services
- Agile stuff
- Scalable Systems
- API Management
- etc.
All are available on Anna’s Archive. I like the Head First book to have an overview of architecture.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•A fun anti-monopoly law and anti-enshitification measure would be that once you hit 50% of market share you are forced to link to alternatives on your pageEnglish
1·7 days agoCompanies already have to do this when they break the law. They write a stupid hidden page where the text is 3 pixels high. Doesn’t work.

1·9 days agoWhich plan do you have? Is the Pro version better with “Email to note”?
Curious because I used that in the past but stopped I don’t remember why.
It seems that you are seeking dangerous behaviors on purpose. Don’t do that.

2·11 days agoyou’re not going to be able to access your bank
You would need to create yet another version of HTTP to handle that (a few years) and banks would have to handle it globally (at least 5 years from my own experience). It will never happen like that. Banks are the slowest companies to handle that kind of modification.

1·12 days agoAFAIK the only algorithms that can do this is JPEG-XL which can compress a JPEG and still recover the original file. But that not really lossy compression.
It’s funny that we went from “AIDS is killing people all over the place” in the 80s to “I had sex with a stranger that does not respect me and it’s fine, am I the asshole.”
When did people stop respecting themselves? And how could they not learn about this AIDS thing?

News@lemmy.world•Viral ‘Quittr’ porn addiction app exposed the masturbation habits of hundreds of thousands of usersEnglish
27·12 days agoSame. The nofap thing always felt wrong to me. You cannot claim publicly that you don’t masturbate unless there is some kind of “god will be happy if I behave well according to the bible or some other shit.”
Linux Mint is a thousand times easier to install and use than Windows. It supports more hardware than Windows, and you don’t need the terminal.
It’s like Windows 2000 but not insane.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is private age verification technically possible and if so how?English
5115·14 days agoI’m pretty sure there is already a cryptographic protocol that can do this, but that’s not the point. We do NOT need age verification in software, it makes no sense. We need parents to take care of their own children because why would open-source software do the job of failed parenting? It’s a social issue, not something that can be solved with technology. Or we would have put shock-collars on every kids when they don’t behave.
