President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal and media mogul Rupert Murdoch, a day after the newspaper published a story reporting on his ties to wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Just outrageous and questionable enough for MAGA to use as cover, and Trump to turn into a lighting rod. But it doesn’t change much for anyone else. Before, MAGA Media had nothing to point to and paint Trump as the victim. Now, they do.
It derailed the schism :/
Other media’s lapping it up to tell readers want they want to hear: MAGA is infighting, when in reality they are not.

can you show me some examples of this not being the case? i am wondering where to look for an actual analysis on how MAGA is handling this letter, because i have seen several real world responses from his supporters that are extremely upset and feel betrayed. you’re saying this isn’t a sizeable group within his base? interesting.

Not sure what you’ve seen. But to be blunt, a few clipped Twitter screenshots or clickbait headlines filtering to Lemmy’s front page don’t paint a good picture. This place is a bubble… Like most of the internet. Twitter is, too, as its algo just shows you want you want to see, not a fair “slice” of activity.
…no, i said real world examples lol. like a town hall meeting where people loudly booed Trump and it was a meeting specifically for his crowd.
edit: this here - i can’t find a good clip that is just the event itself, sorry. searching nowadays is garbage but it is out there. this will give you an idea of what i’m talking about. there are more examples.
Influencers are a good bellwater, they’re the heart of the MAGA movement. They go where their viewers want, which is (for now) attacking the WSJ and defending Trump.
I don’t know of any grassroots uprisings against Trump. Surveys will take weeks to percolate out, but the lack of documented rebellion kinda suggests voters aren’t turning on him in person, either.
check the edit in my comment. i don’t know about a documented uprising or anything but people are vocally expressing disapproval and some are rather upset. trump almost got assassinated by a disillusioned conservative. these people are dangerous and unhinged even against themselves.
Or Murdock did this on purpose to give trump a safe case to set precedence on- Murdock will have his lawyers flub key parts, like arguing discovery poorly so that trump can claim the epstein files are privileged govt material, etc, so that when he brings suits against more hostile media co’s, the judges will have precedence to point to when denying better formulated arguments.
As it turns out, the article is a gift from Murdoch: https://www.axios.com/2025/07/18/trump-epstein-letter-maga-documents

Yeah. The narrative on the right has been changing ever since this came out. I wouldn’t be that surprised if that was the point of the whole thing.

The above article quotes and sources major influencers, but if that’s not enough, go to the source:

Hopefully this doesn’t just get dismissed and we get some nice information in discovery.
Based on the last few cases, The WSJ will cave and settle with Trump for a ridiculous amount of money in order to stay on his “good” side.

Controlled opposition to set precedence for similar cases?
