This guy fucks.
I am shamed by his example. This dude is my hero.
He left active duty in the mid-1980s, leaving the Marines as an E-2 — “Like any Marine, I lost two stripes in the middle of that [service]. I think it’s only worthy of a Marine to do something like that.”
Lmao
He must’ve been part of the E-4 mafia
Long story short:
When I was an E-4 I unknowly became the puppet leader of the “Filipino Mafia” on my ship.
It took six months of thinking this dude who just joined lived the craziest most drama filled life until I finally realized he was just asking me the questions every Filipino on the ship had asked him.
Explanation:
In the Philippines “respect for elders” is a big cultural thing, and since they’re on a ship instead of in a village, the oldest person on the ship (split for enlisted/officer) regardless of rank is still the person you go to for advice. So since they always grouped up for meals and stuff, “Filipino Mafia” was a common phrase, despite them not really getting up to anything shady.
So all these people were asking my coworker (who was old but fresh out of boot), he’d tell them “let me think”, and then just ask me and relay that to the person who asked.
Love it
Butter bars were the worst
Isn’t the equivalent of the sham shield in the marines a lance corporal?
E-2 = PFC E-4 = Corporal.
The mafia was more of a “let’s get shit done despite the staff and officers being disconnected”
Yeah baby, yeah!
There are still American heroes.
