No it’s not. The political spectrum is two-dimensional not one dimensional. You’ve got radical left and radical right on one axis and then you’ve got authorian and libertarian on the other axis. Their can be, and has been, authoritarian left wing leaders. Trump is right and up. They’ve gone left and up, they haven’t gone in a circle.

The original spectrum is based on seating arrangements of the French ruling body after the revolution. Maybe that’s not a good model to begin with.
