I’m getting used to it now, but Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I read the original comic series before the film came out and Scott was this rambunctious lovable idiot who was quick to jump into action and get himself in trouble, but he was skilled enough to fight his way out of it every time.
Michael Cera is a very timid, meek, soft-spoken actor who gives kitten vibes, even when he’s angry. He turned Scott from this confidently dumb loudmouthed fighter into a shy, passive guy who surprises everybody with some serious fighting skills.
Scott is well-known in the comic for being one of the best fighters in the Toronto area. In the movie, everyone is surprised when he’s suddenly able to hold his own against the Evil Ex’s.
I would’ve loved to see a Scott who fit the original comic character a little better, but Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is one of my favorite movies and I’ve watched it so many times, I’m actually getting used to Michael Cera. Still, it’s a bit jarring when I go back to read the comics.
I also think he fits the role really well. In the comics he might be more loudmouthed and maybe more confident, but the surprise that he can actually fight was still the same imo.

As someone who only saw the movie, he seemed perfect to me. It’s interesting to hear how different the comic was.
