As usual with the fediverse, choice is key.
There were quite a few complaints on !fediverse@lemmy.world about !linux@lemmy.ml not having any real alternative (https://reddthat.com/post/20166234), so let’s see if we can revive the programming.dev one.
And if it fails, at least we tried.
Isn’t there more active !linux@lemmy.world already?
I had a quick look, no post for 2 days, the two post of todays are reposts from someone who posted them to !linux@programming.dev too. The mod hasn’t been active for a month.
And having a community off LW for a change is nice, this is like hitting two birds with one stone.
I was looking at weekly and monthly stats, as well as the amount of subscribers. Though I agree that the most recent data shows that !linux@programming.dev is probably more active. And this community fits programming.dev more. I’ll subscribe to both and see where it goes :s
I dont get these alternatives. Lemmy needs a feature to mirror communities to other servers. Having 2 is annoying
We still have !asklemmy@lemmy.world and !asklemmy@lemmy.ml side by side.
I guess in this case the question is if you are okay with lemmy.ml moderation practices: https://slrpnk.net/post/10244872
Crazy read, yes Lemmy.ml is problematic.
But some kind of post mirroring is still needed to make this really work.
Hopefully people will agree with you and post to !linux@programming.dev rather than !linux@lemmy.ml
And people will probably keep an eye on both and repost from the old one to the new one
Sorry, links are a bit messy sometimes with Mbin
!community@domain.name
Should work fine. Not sure how your comment syntax looked like but the second link also worked properly, just not the first one.
I used the same for both, I even checked after your comment. Anyway, at least yours work
It’s something that needs to be done on the activitypub protocol level. As users we can only work with what we got available to us.
Sure? Not on the lemmy side?
But yes, it is what it is. I copied a lot of my posts over
The Fediverse is more than just Lemmy. If you’d make a Lemmy exclusive solution, then only Lemmy would actually be able to use it.
Yes but Lemmy needs it XD but sure it would be better everywhere
And what makes you think that other software / sites do not?
Thanks BTW!
Should I make a new account for / on programming.dev then?
No, this is accessible via https://lemmy.ml/c/linux@programming.dev for you!
Just leave Lemmy.ml.
but I already left reddit
I feel for you. People said “just join any instance” and now people like you have everything set up on the CCP’s Fediverse propaganda hub.
