The ultimate goal of joining those types of groups is to find individuals that share your values who you can make connections with.

The more rural the area and sparsely populated the area, the harder it will be to find those types of existing groups, making churches, food banks, and non-profits or charities the only realistic options in the beginning.

If you live in an area where you’re not able to find any existing group that deals with a particular issue in your area, the only option at that point would be to create your own group to tackle that issue, becoming the mutual aid you seek.

An example of what the latter could look like is to create a community garden or open a community fridge to help with creating food stability for your community, possibly by working with local businesses who have excess food to give away/write off, or by working with your local food banks or churches.

If you have a local DSA chapter, that can often have people interested in joining up with you in mutual aid.

Did you get any results from using a search engine to search your town/city plus the word mutual aid?

Just to be sure; when you click that link, does it take you to a guide on how to find like minded people, or only a comment below the guide that says nonprofits are sellouts? It seems to bring me to the guide, but that’s only a sample size of one.

I ask since food pantries and churches are some of the places it recommends looking, among others.

If you have a Food Not Bombs chapter near you, that’d be a good group to visit and talk to as well.

Short of going there as a medic or for humanitarian aid, the most powerful thing we can do to help is to organize ourselves in our local communities to better prepare ourselves for resistance and build up grassroots movements to demand our governments stop assisting in the genocide.

What that actually looks like:

1. finding those local communities and getting involved to make connections
2. We can effect things drastically with a general strike. This targets their income streams, and can bring a fascist government to its knees if done on a large enough scale.
3. Contact a union and attempt to unionize your workplace, so that the general strike is even more effective.

OP, as someone who has a very similarly specced laptop:

Install Linux Mint, do a one click install of the Nvidia driver with the mint GUI driver installer, and then open the application that’s stuttering from your start menu by right clicking on it, and select ‘run with discrete GPU’, which will force it to use your Nvidia card.

Mint has access to newer nvidia drivers than mint, and Cinnamon let’s you open programs with exclusively the Nvidia GPU instead of integrated graphics from the start menu.

All I remember of that show was catching it on a VHS after I left it recording to grab squidbillies one night, and there was a scene of a shark trying to start a car for a really, really long time, which was pretty damn funny.

I have a funny story about a Sony Mavica.

My family bought one when it was becoming obsolete on deep discount, I forget from where. We used the crap outta that thing, and when we became internet savvy, used it as a way to upload pictures to the computer for eBay listings. Eventually, around 2006 or so, we replaced it with a digital camera that used an SD card, and in its little protective case the mavica went, to rest.

2 decades later, I rediscovered it while cleaning out old boxes, found that it still worked perfectly (thanks to using standard AA’s), and decided to sell it on eBay.

It sits up there for a while at $20, until one day I get a message about it, asking if the screen was okay or sum such. I tell them it is and shortly after, they buy it.

Out of mild curiosity, I click on the buyer’s profile, and see that he sells stuff as well, and it’s a very old account, about as old as mine. The pictures for the items he currently had for sale are pretty grainy, and I thought… Surely not…

I download a picture of one of his items, and sure enough; it’s the same resolution as the mavica takes, 640 by something.

That crazy bastard had been steadily using his Sony Mavica floppy disk camera for over 20 years for his little eBay business.

I suspected that his camera must’ve finally given up the ghost, and he spotted my prime example and bought it so he could continue his well worn routine.

He left me positive feedback for the Mavica, and I suppose he’s still using it to this day, keeping that old equipment alive and useful.

As a fan of the brave little toaster, it nearly brings a tear to the eye… I just really hope he switched to rechargeable batteries at some point, the little floppy drive on it chewed through AA’s quicker than a terrier on a kilo of cocaine.

Perhaps an ideal time to reintroduce community run/funded Ferrer Schools to combat it.

There’s definitely something going on. Whenever I add a Lemmy instance URL that isn’t obfuscated somehow, like replacing the periods with commas or (dot), then my comment gets no likes or responses, whereas a very similar comment in the same thread without a link does.

It seems to down rank it in the algorithim, if not outright shadow remove them.
