  • I see some people make similar comments in the gun community here in Australia. Everything they disagree with is considered controversial

These things are often in part military recruitment drives. There are plenty of airshows that don’t use fighter jets and don’t have military booths there (which I’m guessing is happening at that airshow).

My aerobatics instructor (who actually once had a mid air collision and still managed to land the plane by using thrust to pitch) used to fly at a lot of smaller shows where it was genuinely about planes and the pilots, and no hidden agenda

It doesn’t mean the pilots are there for the military, but it is a huge part of it imho. It’s cool to see military planes, but, they’re there so people go "wow, I want to join “air force”

  • It’s funny everyone is suddenly getting banned.

I was on Reddit for at least 10 years. Made a new account, kept arguing against racists

Got banned for racism, obviously by the Nazis. Never got banned in the last 2 decades. And pretty sure none of the racists got banned

But it’s no surprise lemmy isn’t as big. That’s not a bad thing. Reddit is overrun by the same lobbyists and people who have ruined Facebook and made it no longer fun

  • AI is literally just legalized theft of other people’s work. It won’t credit them to any capacity.

Also, whilst it is adding some productivity, it’s also being used by absolute idiots who have no idea what they’re doing spreading bad info and causing other people more work.

Every idiot is typing everything into chatgpt, getting a bad answer which is obvious to anyone half trained and then promoting it like it’s correct just because AI said it

  • Truck drivers a month ago “wahhh, diesel is so expensive, we demand the government gives us handouts, we’ve been struggling for so long and we don’t get paid much”. I simply compare to EV’s, and suddenly apparently diesel ISN’T expensive, and 30mins of your time, is super valuable and costs the company a huge amount. Most truckies return to the depot multiple times in a day (where they could charge). They’re not all doing interstate trips…

I’m not sure what decade you’re living in either. I used to drive a small toyota hatchback, and 20 years ago it cost more than $30 for 800km. Unless your car is a ride on mower, I doubt it lol

What I find particularly hilarious is the prolific racism amongst Truckies (particularly on facebook), especially those claiming they don’t speak english well… And yet, I’ve mentioned multiple times how BYD Blade batteries are full enough in 5 mins (actually 97% charge in 10), and apparently you keep missing it. Full charge is NOT important. In fact, in Aviation, you rarely fly with full tanks

  • Don’t compile it in then…

It’s literally that simple… but yeah, it is sync, you are correct

We could debate the advantage and disadvantages of a lot of things in the main kernel. There’s so much stuff in there that only benefits certain limited applications, and we could make the argument for userspace for almost everything, including a lot of filesystem drivers

Like it or not, wine and gaming is probably the biggest avenue where Linux is winning on the desktop at the moment (especially thanks to steam). We shouldn’t ignore it

I’ve been using Linux for at least 20+ years now. And seen a lot of stuff come and go.

A lot of distros are shipping with ntsync anyway, and, it’s something that will definitely get maintained
