Even though I have the exact version mentioned in this post, I have been unable to find any flags in the debug menu that will enable the ability to change colors in a chat conversation. For some reason neither the post or the telegram channel it links to, do not mention which flags to enable. I’ve seen it mention on other platforms that “bugle.enable_custom_themes” is the specific flag, however that does not exist on the current beta version as far as I can tell. The version I have and the one mentioned in the post is messages.android_20240125_01_RCO0.phone.openbeta_dynamic.

If anyone has a suggestions, please let me know.

  • When I was younger, I had really only experienced console games and maybe a few basic PC games at school. My uncle showed my this FPS game on his computer called Redneck Rampage. Basically you’re running around farms trying to kill aliens. I don’t really remember playing very many FPS game before that and it opened up a whole new world for me. But the really crazy part was how “adult” the game was. You could drink beer in the game and your character would get drunk. I also remember some graffiti in the game of a naked woman with huge tits. At the time I could not believe something like that would be allowed in a video game! Blew my mind.

  • Yeah it’s weird. I mean I use Google Message (RCS) and it has visual differences for conversations that are using RCS vs ones using SMS but I honestly don’t care about the color. I care more about using a modern cross platform standard than falling back to ancient SMS because Apple wants to use a proprietary locked down system at the expense of their user’s experience. WhatsApp might not be bad but no one I know really uses it so I would have to start convincing people to switch. That’s more than a uphill battle. It’s completely futile. The only thing that will change the tide is Apple either opening up iMessage or Apple incorporating RCS into iMessage. I don’t see either happening anytime soon because they simply don’t care about interoperability.
