Whilst I do enjoy a good drive in the countryside, in the dark trying to get home from work is not really the time. I think the GPS was trying to send me the long way around to avoid some traffic, but driving back country roads you don’t know in the dark is not fun.

In good news though I had many packages when I got home, including the lost Bunnings parcel that has been spending the last week touring the state. Miss Meow has some new steps, which arrived with a bit of damage but seem to be holding together ok, and she also has a new mat to go in front of the litter trays to help contain her wild litter flinging ways.

I also have a couple of rugs which look fairly lightweight but should be decent enough for occasional use in the garage, a stand to put the toaster oven on, a rolling stand for my computer cpu, and new rollerblade style castors for my office chair. I just need to figure out how to get the old ones off.

And also a set of coasters I threw in as a last minute impulse buy and actually look pretty decent - each one has a similar but different pattern.

After the awful news out of India I decided to revisit a happier ending to a crazy situation and watched Sully. Damn near cried a few times just thinking about the goodness of people compared to what we see in the US today. Now I’m off to go watch some Mayday episodes and feel grateful for my life.

E: also, massive boo to Clint Eastwood and his anti government dickhead views for making the NTSB into some kind of villain, I guess it was just the beginning of the Trump years after all. Which is all the more sad to contrast with 2009, when it actually happened… Can’t believe the GFC years feel better than what we have today.

That was tragic what happened in India, the fact by some miracle one person survived is somehow out of this world.

      What’s Mayday by the way?

I haven’t read any news in about 4 or so months.

Previously, I was glued every day doomscrolling multiple news sources and subreddits a day.

In a way, it’s putting my head in the sand. But to be completely up front, my mental health has benefited significantly.

Anyone want an overbearing 7kg cat that refuses to listen, insists on licking your face while clawing your neck, flicks kitty litter everywhere, opens every cupboard that he can, must be involved in everything and is currently nuzzled my fingers while I try to type? Anyone? Please?

Of course I’m not being serious, but he’s really A LOT today!

Ah, the danger vest, as it always is! Please give this baby a few cheek tickles and a good ear scratch from me 😺

Ok, quick bedding change when Melbcat briefly got up. Quick cycle rewashing of a forgotten load.

When I get up again I’m going to replace the bin bag, throw out the stuff on the bench and empty the litter boxes.

Have returned to Firefox and it was far less painful of a transition than I thought. After figuring out some video rendering issues (stuttering caused by hardware acceleration, and tearing fixed by setting monitor frame rate to max) there are only upsides so far!

I returned to Firefox (after years of using Chrome out of laziness) on my work laptop because of Google’s manifestly (ha) stupid decision to block functionality that means uBlock Origin no longer could be installed, which means I had no way of manually adding extra filters to block the garbage AI Overview in el goog search results.

Honestly think I should just switch to Firefox on my personal computer too. I use Iceraven on my phone which is a fork of Firefox, anyway…

I use Brave on my phone, because of its inbuilt ad blocker - I can watch YT videos without all the ads before, during, and after the vid lol idk about it’s other functionalities however.

I can use uBlock Origin in Iceraven on my phone, which probably has a similar-ish outcome (though it’s slower at keeping up the YT ads arms race, every so often ads will slip in)

However, I instead watch YT on a Revanced patched version of the Youtube app, which blocks ads, uses Sponsorblock (skip all the sponsored segments and if you want to skip intros/intermissions/outros etc), and very importantly, lets you have background playback - I couldn’t be happier with it! Especially when I want to have some 3 hour brown noise + rain video playing in the background while I doomscroll

This is why I returned, though I was using Edge and they haven’t set a date yet for ending Manifest V2 support. Figured I’d get ahead of it. The uBO team also say it works best on Firefox too.

They can take the ability to block custom elements over my dead body! Especially as unwanted AI garbage continues to infect more and more user interfaces

Yes! Actually! More energy required to stay warm means higher energy intake!
