Friend from high school was one of the loveliest people I’ve ever met. Haven’t spoken to her in ages and from our mutual friends, it seems like she’s joined some church called City on a Hill. It seems culty. I hope she’s okay.

The name references the Pilgrim Fathers of america - they openly and publicly wanted to build a ‘city on a hill’ to be ‘shining example of holiness’ to the rest of the world. They both started and ended up as religious extremists of very nearly the worst possible description. Check out the Salem witch trials. Yeeesssss, the cultishness risk is present and def should be guarded against imo. I hope she’s OK too. She might see through the jargon to the very present risk of woman control/subjugation in the name of holiness.

Still, as Terry Pratchett puts it, slavery is a wonderful refuge from uncertainty. Maybe she’s feeling in need of some certainty in her life. Or maybe anxiety relief. Which is reasonable given the chaotic nature of modern times. I do think that joining a church with a history of very prescriptive behaviour for women is is NOT the best possible way to relieve anxiety about her life choices though. Best you can do imo is to be present but not judgmental about her choices. As stated before, she may well see through the bullshit and make better choices in the future.

So with the under 16s social media ban looming, does anyone know what will happen to this group? I don’t want to loose the amazing group here.

    conversation with my dad

Dad: I can’t work anymore, my arm’s gonna fall off (he does a trade as a weekend job)

    Me: what’s wrong with it?

    Dad: tennis elbow

Me: what did the Dr say?

Dad: they’ve done all they could

    Me: what about a physio?

Dad: they’re going to make me do exercises

He should get the forearm strap and watch a few youtubes on it. Massage the extensor compartment (hairy side muscle) of the arm with the elbow tip of the other arm. And do the exercises or it’ll get worse.

Word. I hurt my superior and inferior extensor retinaculum in my left ankle and had to do some physio to strengthen them again. All because I wore bad shoes and was very stationary during COVID lockdowns.

Had to get one of those exercise strap loop things and do exercises with it, and I still do the tips toe exercises for both ankles (one hand on wall, stand on one leg and move from flat foot to tip toe and back, for each leg, a few times a day).

You can increase that a little by standing toes on a step, heels free hanging, then going up and down. It’ll give your ankle a larger range of motion working the calf muscles more. If you’re ready for the next stage.

The pathology is the muscles are pulling on the bone and the bone is getting pissed off about it. The strap means the muscles pull on the strap. The massages relaxes the muscles - he’ll be able to find the sore spots easy enough, they reveal themselves.

Edit: I think he’s actually got one already but isn’t using it properly. I will find some videos for him. He loves his YouTube tutorials

    old fart rant:

back in the day you could be trying to work out how to do something on an obsolete OS and post a question and if people didn’t know they’d just walk the fuck past the post and leave it there for people who knew what they were talking about. If you got no answers, you kept plugging away yourself.

nowadays you get straight up headshotted by some uppity fuckwit mod “this software is EOL” aye no fucking shit sherlock has it occurred to you that we are aware of this and there is a specific reason we persist?

    religious propaganda in my mailbox

Everyone in the building got one and we’re all pissed (either someone tailgates a resident in the building to put them in our mail, or someone in the building it distributing them lol).

Published in 1983, it’s doomsday shite that’s been wrong about the end of the world for over 40 years 😂

Trying a different eyeshadow everyday from the palette done. ucanbe sunbaked and glitter, I like all the glitter ones and the one dove grey, the others didn’t suit me.

Next up, Chi Chi Brights palette. Bright oranges and greens and blues and such.

I decided to buy a bunch of the Golden Hills mid strength beer because we have two christmas things on at work this week. It should be a good sensible beer for everyone else because they drive, but I bought the beer and plan to ride so I don’t have such weakness

Another person from the forum I mentioned a bit ago who was in a really dark place is almost a paramedic! Yay! I’m so glad they’re doing a lot better than they were. I love seeing people’s lives get better.
