    Possible job offer.

    Reference check being conducted.

If they require a police check, which they probably will, it’s 50/50 that they withdraw the offer.

    Fingers crossed, 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾

Edit: nervous that the recruiter hasn’t reached out to my references yet. But we’ll see.

Fucking called it!!! Sit down for for dinner last night and the mrs goes “what we we doing this weekend?” “not much, why?” “Well, I got a message from (Couple I complained about yesterday) wondering if we…” “nope! heck no we’re not doing that. Whatever it is, its a no from me.” She stares at me a few seconds “Why?” “We talked about this last weekend babe, we are NOT getting pulled into this shit! the other day was exhausting, i need some space from them”

She goes on to admit the message was very strange and almost like we didn’t have a choice in the matter. I pointed out as adults we very much do have a choice. I so saw this coming, I may not have understood it but I was apprehensive enough to bring it up yesterday I must’ve had a 6th sense.

Yeah avoid that dumpster fire. Life’s complex and exhausting enough without taking on other people’s BS. Especially if they’re in a situation where they could do something about their drama but won’t due to reasons.

I’ve also seen it more dramatically stated as "don’t set yourself on fire to keep others warm ".

It comes up a lot on the caregiving Reddit sub, there are way too many people who are manipulated into prioritizing other people’s needs above their own.

The one that really stuck with me from this whole discussion was “You’ve kind of shot yourself in the foot there, can you please not bleed on my kitchen floor?”.

You’re definitely doing the right thing by doing your best not to get pulled into the drama.

All good advice are lessons learned in the flames that chill, rather than burn.

It can apply to many differing situations, but the best thing you can do is look after yourself first and foremost. One cannot do anything for anyone else, if one is broken from lack of self-care.

On the other hand when you have to answer “yes” it starts opening up a bunch of complicated questions to wade through. I put a small amount of money into some investment funds a couple of years ago and now I get to wade through a whole bunch of extra questions, all over tiny amounts of money. It’s all stuff like $20 of franking credits, $2.31 in foreign investment offsets and $6 of capital gains. I’m looking forward to hitting the age I can access Super and can just shove money in there and take it out tax free without all the hassle.

The last time I did my tax that quickly I realised later I missed something and had to do an amendment. Turns out it meant the tax refund I had already received was higher than it should have been, so I had to repay the ATO 8c.

Modern tax return stuff is so good how it already knows about all of my dividend and interest payments etc. Most things are auto-filled but I just need to crack open my google doc I keep with my expenses I put in and keep track of purchases I can claim, whack that stuff in there, get briefly mad at how much tax I pay every year and then hit submit. Probably takes me about 10 minutes. 15 with a double-check of everything.

It’s certainly a massive improvement on the old paper forms. The early electronic lodgements were also basically just the paper form online, all of this automatic stuff makes it so much easier.

Before I came to Australia I had this impression that tax was Awful and Complicated and A Nightmare - primarily from American media - and this was before I was old enough to have needed to file a tax return.

Only to find out it’s a total breeze here.

I think USA has the additional complication of having both State and Federal income taxes. There also seem to be a lot of things that can be deductable there that don’t apply here - like mortgage payments on your own home and the value of donations given to charity (not just money, but stuff like old clothes you drop off at the op shop!). Plus they have the option to file a joint tax return as a couple instead of being treated as two individuals, which is beneficial in some circumstances but not others.

Lie on side - raise top arm and possibly knee to create cat tent with doona - she may go under and then you can possibly slowly lower the doona down over the lower half of her body.

It might be more effective with a heat source to tempt her in.

Maybe Melbcat is unusually cuddly for a cat though

This is the way. I never met a cat that could resist the call of the “cat tent” and it’s emanating warmth. Especially being claustrophiles as they often are.

One cat really didn’t like being confined and would lash out (a neglected runaway I eventually got back to his owner - * the confinement was only gently herding him into a corner to dab on flea and worm treatment, nothing else was forced on him) but with patience he started to spoon with me over the covers on his own. He would allow me to pick him up.

If he’d crashed for longer than a few months I might have built enough trust for the cat tent

I do not like that forecast. I looked at the predications for the next week and the coldest mornings are all the ones I’m working (which means 4am wakeup). Two days -1, one day 0, and a pleasantly warm 2 degrees for the other. There should be an extra penalty rate or allowance for early starts in below zero temperatures.

So, Planet Ark are trying to register an account to join aussie.zone. I would normally have rejected their application, as they are giving the vibe of ‘we want to spam’. So, I reached out to them on their contact form. I thought it possible they had a google analytics alert and noticed us discussing their products recently.

But, that was longer ago than I realised: It feels like we talked about that a few weeks ago. So now I’m back to thinking they want to spam. Gah!

I want answers, but I don’t want ads. I suppose I’ll wait to see if/how they respond to my website query.

    Update:

    Hi Nath,

No, that email address does not belong to us.

    Thanks for checking!

Businesses routinely have alerts on their brands with Google. It’s quite possible they got an email from Google that we were talking about their products. That part actually makes sense to me.

If they had applied for an account within a week or so of that discussion, and said in their application they were joining the site in response to it - I’d have thought it completely reasonable.

Got done by a lemon tree thorn a few days ago. Tiny little prick but it’s really puffed up. Headed over to Dr. google and learnt a new word:

Phytophotodermatitis, where when you get done, then expose it to UVA it flares up. Most common from lemon trees apparently.

Little fucker packs a punch. I had no idea.

I will wear gloves next time.

Wait until you get a rose thorn stabbing, and end up going to the doc for a penicillin injection. Which they administer with a sharpened hose pipe into your gluteus maximus. Rose thorns do gangrene really really well apparently. Learned my lesson from that experience and now wear gloves when I’m anywhere near roses. Never knew that lemons were particularly hazardous - thanks for the info!

I go for the pre training review thingy today. They sent me the link yesterday and reiterated I had to fill out the LLN assessment prior to the PTR, so i wrote back to ask if they’d received my assessment, and they never replied which is always a good sign.

I feel like this is a bit of a pivotal moment for me, and this is about the point I’d start making saves if this were a game…

In other news, I was finally able to go watch that bad men movie on Sunday (3rd time’s the charm, I guess). I enjoyed it, even though I never saw the other one(s? I think it’s a trilogy). I pieced enough of it together to still enjoy myself.

Edit: it didn’t really go anywhere. Apparently being in high school I need a letter before I can start the course, even though I’m apparently old enough to just decide I want to leave. And of course it’s now school holidays so I can’t get it until the 12th, 4 days before my course starts…

Such beautiful weather out today! I wish I wasn’t stuck in an office for most of it. Tonight is gonna be froooosty, I’m STOKED that I can roll outta bed late tomorrow. Have a meeting on campus at 2, plan is to try and finish all my work off by noon and quietly clock off after that. Would love to have a stroll round campus after if tomorrow’s as beautifully sunny as today.
