Ted Cat’s stroller has been attained, put together and tested with Ted sitting in it outside. He likes it. 😊 Tomorrow morning I will take him for a walk in the park. There will be pictures. 🐈‍⬛🛞📦🛞

I did not get the nice place I applied for on Monday despite offering 15/week more. At least they told me quick smart.

I may have good news with the other place though, pending clarification of some weird half baked email I got that was missing attachments. It’s painful how much I’ll be paying relative to the size, and lack of greenery, and noise, but I’m reframing it as like a temporary apartment stay to finish my studies. Because I only need to commit till about mid next year. And that means FREEDOM.

I will have to cull a lot, but at it’ll feel like I’m really committing to closing this chapter of my life. No more coasting along.

Cross all your digits for me DT! The sooner I’m done with this the better 🤞

I’m gonna go on a little rant about Halloween. Kids, pets and even adults dressing up, meeting your neighbours having a bit fun. I’m all for that. Decorate your house inside and out. Great.

Now here’s the thing. People take this shit way to far. Instead of just walking a few streets with your kids, meeting new people, it’s now “let’s go and collect as much shit as possible from strangers before others get there”.

How do we do that? We will drive around in our people mover looking for houses because Facebook mums have posted where the best streets are for little Johnny to collect his treats and he’s only 3 and the size of a small hippo and he can’t walk far.

It’s now a car door slamming competition with a stampede. Aussies are great innovators. We take shit from around the world and we adapt them to suit us. Halloween is not one of them we do well.

I loved it back in Canada, cause it was the norm. Streets were full of kids and adults. 90% of houses were decorated and people got into the spirit of it.

Here it seems to forced and unnatural. Which is why we hand out caramel covered onions to all the trick or treaters.

I’ve got no problem with the little Johnnys of this country. It’s the parents who are pimping their kids out so they can gorge on the fruits for ron.

These people sound greedy as hell, and in being this competitive are kind of missing the point of the exercise.

I love Halloween in theory but I deliberately play possum to avoid being approached by strangers’ children… or really anybody.

I find it an interesting opportunity to observe the different facets of human nature. I live in an area with lots of young families and I like seeing the hand crafted decorations that the family have made as a craft exercise. Who are the people who make their own, and who obviously spends way too much money on that stuff? Which children take only a small portion of treats, making sure there’s plenty left for other children, and who grabs repeated handfuls of treats or even pours the entire treat bowl into their goody bag! Which parents dress up and get out there mingling with others in the pleasant early evening, laughing and handing out treats? Which parents put a bowl out and play possum? Which parents deliberately ignore the blatant greed of their children and fiddle with their phone, or actively encourage their children to take all the treats! It is endlessly fascinating for me to observe and I am totally there for it.

Day was better. Went fairly quick.

Taking the Monday off for the long weekend. Some people are taking Friday as well… If I didn’t have a project kicking off that day I’d do the same.

Kicking off a project on a Friday is a bad idea unless they’re expecting everyone to think about it all weekend and not be in wind down mode that day, it’s even worse to do it this specific weekend with a significant number of people having a 4-5 day weekend. The stakeholders are going to need a refresh on Wednesday, so might as well kick it off Wednesday.

I know it’s going to fail miserably. I’m looking forward to the shit fest.

I think the cost of living shit starting to seep through to even the landlord class is having an impact (though in their case I want to emphasise that taxes on investments isn’t a cost of living issue).

Beautiful afternoon. But what baffles me is how many people are in shorts or dresses. When my day started it was a chilly 12c so jeans it was. Do people just freeze for half the day for the 1 hour of nice weather, or do they carry around a change of clothes for when the sun comes out. I’ve lived in Melbourne all my life and still can’t figure it out.

I can’t really help as I’m menopausal: hot when it’s cold and cold when it’s hot. Also spending most of my working life in kitchens has messed up my body thermostat. I find I wear things like long shorts over leggings and short sleeved t-shirts over long sleeved ones and with my trusty light-but-just-warm-enough crappy hoodie, I’m ready for anything! 🫡👩🏻‍🍳🥔

If I know it’s gonna be like 18+ later on, I’m wearing shorts in anticipation. I assume it would be same for dresses and such.

In any case, I bring a jumper. As long as my torso is warm I’m fine. My legs don’t really get cold.

            That’s really interesting, I’d say pleasant/lovely is -2 to 7, I hate 8 to 18 as it’s like a tease and I despise it, 19 to 22 is kinda alright, 23 to 30 is lovely, 31 to 35 is hot, and 36 to 40+ is brutal.

growing up is was dress for the warm day and it didn’t matter if we were cold in the morning

it might actually be a good thing to experience all the different temps ( within reason ) rather than live in permanent and unnatural 22°

I have a feeling that as a kid spring /summer/autumn had more warm days in the past, but I guess is am imagining it because climate records say otherwise. Maybe I’ve pushed the cooler days out of my mind because they weren’t as fun. I don’t think it’s unnatural to be permanently in a warmer climate, that’s where we evolved. We overcame it by inventing clothes.

Jesus that lineup for When We Were Young 2025 should come with a NSFW warning, sporting a semi in the office. Ok, thats a lie. But I did gasp and moan slightly.

That line up is… I mean… F me dead thats must of punk rock royalty right there. That is gonna go OFF! I hate festivals, but if that weren’t in the states I’d be considering it.

Yeah those lyric ones were awesome, but my partner played the voice of reason with: “indisin, are you ever going to wear those? indisin how’re you going to carry all of this? indisin, please pick just one. indisin, you don’t need the bages. Yes indisin, we can play on the arcades and look at the instruments if you pick just one”.

Still working on getting her to go to the US for the festival… and my friends… and my ickle sis and BIL in the UK. No joy so far but early days, so might end up being one of you lot with a free ticket.

Hope you enjoyed the blink gig btw! Weirdly I actually preferred seeing Ash at the Croxton and I wasn’t an Ash fan but that gig just had a vibe and I say that as someone who thought the blink gig was epic.

We saw them at Rod Laver most recently but you’ll be super jelly of this, as I’m originally from the UK I’ve seen them loads of times, and also with Skiba filling in. No matter what they always put on an amazing show, I’ve seen Travis play the drums upside down whilst fire is going off.

We’ve also now got tickets to see them in Vegas :D
