  • So what skills are you trying to grind? The company I work for now had a very similar nonsense hiring process. I think they call it FAANG hiring for the top 5 nerd companies.

I studied my ass off to learn everything I never used in my new role—been here a year. I feel more qualified than a few of the senior developers I work with. I have a similar history as you. I started development around 2001. I went to college for Accounting and dropped out of that after 2 years.

Sometimes you have to play the game to win. Some services help you learn all that stuff to get hired. I’m not sure which to recommend because I didn’t use one.

    Good luck!

  • I tried that… didn’t work.

    This was my latest attempt

There are instances with communities (Reddits with subreddits).

If one or more instances links up, they can share those communities. This is done by the instance federating and copying down the data from the other instance and then working with that instance to stay in sync.
 Examples:
A->All the instances run this. But one is the data master; they all report back when a change is made in their instance. C->Only red is interacting with this community D->Only Red & Yellow interact with this community. latest attempt

I admit the graph needs more work, but it’s a wip… just like lemmy :)

  • The cost will be spread out, and people can monetize how they see fit. I’m wondering if there will be additional benefits you can add to your instance for a charge that people might be willing to pay.

I’m considering offering an Element server and maybe email on mine with a shared username for each service. That’s going to take time to setup, though.

We must prove that it’s valued and let the monetization come later. I’m working on this in my spare time. Once I can grow, maybe I can put more effort into it. I think it’ll be a lot of people like me for a while financing it out of pocket.
