It’s not dead, perhaps you joined at a slow time. We were just chatting a bunch in there about cursor pagination. There are several rooms if you didn’t notice. General, Frontend, API, & Federation. Along with Announcements and Support.

I’m the founder of Sublinks. I’m happy to answer questions. You can find me on Mastodon @sublinks@utter.online. You’re right about the dev blog. We have a weekly Sublinks team meeting, the results of that could go into a weekly dev update. I’ve just been more focused on coding than community stuff. I’ll do better.
Thanks @gabe@literature.cafe! https://social.photo. I just opened registration so it’s still very young. I am running Lemmy on https://discuss.online, Mastodon on https://utter.online and Pixelfed on https://social.photo. I also run a matrix instance on the same discuss.online domain.
I’m based in Ohio, US; however, the servers are in New York on DigitalOcean. That’s really close to Canada :).
I’m trying to build an ecosystem under the https://participating.online brand. I don’t plan on going anywhere.
In fact, I had planned to build something many years ago and I’ll probably start on it now. It will provide a unique experience once it’s done in a several months. I’m working on some other stuff first… like myself.
Yes, agree. That’s why I think everyone should use them more. They’re super helpful for all. I can make my font smaller and see just as well. If more people demand something like this then those that need it will have it.
You’re not taking away from someone by using it. If anything, you’re helping to normalize it for those that may need it more. I find it super useful. I discovered it when I saw it as a font on my Kindle. I was like… is there a mono version?
OpenDyslexic. Can read it at any size and quickly.
So what skills are you trying to grind? The company I work for now had a very similar nonsense hiring process. I think they call it FAANG hiring for the top 5 nerd companies.
I studied my ass off to learn everything I never used in my new role—been here a year. I feel more qualified than a few of the senior developers I work with. I have a similar history as you. I started development around 2001. I went to college for Accounting and dropped out of that after 2 years.
Sometimes you have to play the game to win. Some services help you learn all that stuff to get hired. I’m not sure which to recommend because I didn’t use one.
Good luck!
Clear anyone of debt just by thinking it.
That’s awesome. I tried a lot of them. But it’s the best. Even the forks of it are basically the same. So I stick with the original.
I use element.io
I’m the admin for discuss.online. I’ve reached out to a handful of subreddits I follow asking them to move over to my instance and they don’t respond. Not to me anyway.
That wouldn’t work for my friends. You assume I’m talking to smart people :)
IRC is still very much thriving! Just like HAM.
That’s genius; I love it! I’m going to start using that one. Thanks!
You can join the beta now. They just released a huge update. It’s not done but it’s useable. https://discuss.online/post/17361
That’s what ruined it before… it got to corporate and clean. I like it messy.
I tried that… didn’t work.
This was my latest attempt
There are instances with communities (Reddits with subreddits). If one or more instances links up, they can share those communities. This is done by the instance federating and copying down the data from the other instance and then working with that instance to stay in sync. Examples: A->All the instances run this. But one is the data master; they all report back when a change is made in their instance. C->Only red is interacting with this community D->Only Red & Yellow interact with this community.
I admit the graph needs more work, but it’s a wip… just like lemmy :)
Yeah, there is a massive movement right now. It’ll get there. I have tech friends that don’t quite get it. It’s so simple for me. I’m struggling to find an easy way to explain in.
As an admin of my own instance… We have a while…
The cost will be spread out, and people can monetize how they see fit. I’m wondering if there will be additional benefits you can add to your instance for a charge that people might be willing to pay.
I’m considering offering an Element server and maybe email on mine with a shared username for each service. That’s going to take time to setup, though.
We must prove that it’s valued and let the monetization come later. I’m working on this in my spare time. Once I can grow, maybe I can put more effort into it. I think it’ll be a lot of people like me for a while financing it out of pocket.
Perhaps it’s your client or the server acting funny. Here are direct links to the open rooms:
