We have a rule on the book that interprets the public interest standard that says ‘news distortion’ is something that is prohibited

    Unbelievable. Nobody tell Fox News

If Fox News has straight-face lied to its viewers ONLY 25 times a day for the past 29 years, that’s 264,625 actual lies, not jokes.

So after Fox publicly and explicitly apologizes 264,625 times for each of its egregious lies, we can then entertain the idea of apologizing for delivering truth in the form of a joke on a comedy show.

That’s exactly how Fox got out of their bullshit. Claimed nobody actually believes they’re real news.

Kimmel is literally a comedian doing primarily comedy though. A wolf dressing in sheep’s clothing is not a reason to kill all sheep.

“[This] appears to be an action by Jimmy Kimmel to play into the narrative that this was somehow a MAGA or Republican-motivated person,” Carr said. “What people don’t understand is that the broadcasters … have a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest. When we see stuff like this, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

Welcome to your fascist state, ladies and gentlemen. If you don’t kiss the ring and grease the palms, then you’re out.

Revoke their broadcast license, to make it impossible for them to be on the air with their distributors.

Generally productions are a multi-stage process with several companies involved.

          make it impossible

Unless everyone works together, from content creation all the way down to distribution, some part of the chain will comply with the federal government. They unfortunately don’t need to do anything physical - the show is already dependent on several entities.

I think even jimmy Kimmel could be cool if he was doing pirate broadcast art crimes.

I feel like nothing short of physical action really needs to be paid attention to.

It’s pathetic what Trump and his band of goons are doing to America.

I almost moved to the US at one point. It’s never been perfect but I grew up seeing it as a force that did bring about a lot of good in the world.

    This is pathetic.

“Not in the public interest,” that line is going to get squeezed for all its worth.

At this point I consider the US government to be fully illegitimate. POTUS doesn’t uphold the constitution. Congress doesn’t uphold the constitution. SCOTUS wipes its ass with the constitution.

Understandable. We’re in some deep shit. Assholes breaking down the walls to rip out the copper while we’re still living in the building. I’m hoping they touch the wrong wire and electrocute themselves before they can finish jackhammering through the foundation but things aren’t looking great.
